AS-FAR Framework

Recently, the HEFCE blog had a post titled “Planning and reporting the impact of research,” which looked at a new framework developed by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

Outside of the Adaptive System Framework for Advancing Research [AS-FAR], the report, “The Impact of Higher Education Leadership, Governance and Management: Mining the 2014 Research Excellence Framework Impact Case Studies,” makes a good case for consistency of language in approaching and writing about research impact (see below).


As well, the report nicely puts together eight steps to enable researchers to put the best foot forward in terms of embedding impact into their research projects.

For ease of reference, I have created an aide-memoire that captures the essence of these eight steps (see below).
